The internet has some great sites such at trail.com that provide information about trails in the United States and out. Many people think about trails as there are hundreds of books, maps, blogs and brochures on trails.

The people at railtrails.com think about how to utilize abandoned railroad tracks into recreational trails for hiking, biking, walking etc..

Thinking about trails is one of the earliest thought-about subjects.

The Trail of Tears refers to the forced relocation in 1838 of the Cherokee Native American tribe to the Western United States, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated 4,000 Cherokees. The ‘white’ people were thinking of using the land for their purposes.

Following the Civil War Texas Cattlemen needed to think of a way to get steers to Kansas so they could be shipped and as a result of their thinking the Chisholm Trail was established.

Between 1812 and 1866 probably about 500,000 emigrants thought to leave some kind of written account during their trek on the trails to California, the Pacific Northwest, and Utah?

The Appalachian Trail is a footpath across 2,168 miles of Appalachian Mountain ridge-lines from Georgia to Maine. Hundreds of people each year hike the entire length of the trail in one season. This takes four to six months, lots of planning, and incredible strength of body and mind. Industry professionals say ‘people need to really think about the journey before beginning.’

There are more than 58 National Parks in the United States. People think there are more, but they don’t realize that such things as national monuments, historic parks, national recreational areas are not national parks. There are more than 391 national ‘sites.’ There is some form of a trail at every one of these sites. Some might have signs that say ‘Don’t Even Think About Walking On The Grass.’

There are designated National Historic Trails, National Recreational Trails and National Scenic Trails to think about.

In 1968 legislators got together to think about trails and established A National Trails System Act.

One would think that there is some form of a trail within one mile of where you are currently standing.
