The ways we think to preserve fish today are the same ways ancient people were thinking of preserving fish including drying, salting, pickling and smoking.
Think you have caught a big fish? A huge catfish nearly nine feet long and as ‘big as a grizzly bear’ caught in northern Thailand may be the largest fresh-water fish ever recorded.
-Think about reeling that one in! Earnest Hemingway used to think about fishing all of the time and thought about how to bring in a big fish in ‘The Old Man and The Sea.’ Though, his was a tale of a salt-water fish and not a cat-fish. If you haven’t read it you should think about doing so....
If you don’t have a rod or reel you can think try ‘noodling.’ ...-The practice of ‘noodling’ is catching catfish with your bare hands. Also referred to as hogging, tickling, grabbling or dogging. You should think about where you before you do it because ‘noodling’ is not legal in all states. Authorities in Texas think noodling is worthy of a $500 fine.
How many types of fish can you think of? Actually, there are about 25,000 species of fishes known from both marine and freshwater environments. A little over half, or 58% live in the ocean. One would think that 42% would then live in freshwater, but think again because one percent live in other environments...where do you think that is?

Most species of fish are edible, but whether they have commercial value is another question. One should definitely think before eating a pufferfish as it can be lethally poisonous if incorrectly prepared.
There are at least three categories of fishing to think about: Recreational, Commercial, Sporting.
If you think you are good enough you should think about going pro. Today -Sport Fisherman are not thought of any different than other professional athletes. They are sponsored, have t.v. shows and earn a lot of money.
A lot of people have been thinking of going pro as the 106 fishermen competing in BASS' inaugural tournament in 1967 has grown to a membership of over 600,000.
